   Adama Coulibaly: Quebec/Mali (2001-2002) ::
Theme: Host family

I stayed in Joliette, Quebec, during my program with a very pleasant, hospitable woman who welcomed me into her family and was very curious about my culture. I learned a lot about Quebec culture from my host family, especially from my host mother. She arranged guided tours for me in northern Quebec and get-togethers with other young people and families in the region. She also had me meet Grade 7, 8 and 9 students at Berthier High School. My stay with this family was a great cultural experience. I felt right at home despite the different culture. I’m returning home very pleased and satisfied with my experience, and feel certain I can do things in my country. I think you’ve always got to see other places to then take action at home.
