Theme: Impact

Since my Canada World Youth experience, I’ve taken on new challenges that I never thought possible, such as moving to the other side of the country away from my family and friends to attend university in British Columbia.

In addition to discovering the courage to try new things, I learned many skills during the program including research, facilitation and presentation skills, as well as group dynamics. I learned life skills – how to adapt to change and to be open and non-judgmental of new situations.

Prior to participating in Canada World Youth, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in community development work, but I was unsure of how I would accomplish this. Through my experiences on exchange, I was inspired to pursue my degree in International Relations.

I also now realize how important it is for me to help my own community in Canada. I hope to do this by getting other First Nations youth involved in community work and programs.
