Pascale Fournier

A past participant of Canada World Youth (New Brunswick / Egypt, 1995-1996), Pascale Fournier was featured in Julie Huard’s documentary film for Radio-Canada, “Et si on changeait le monde?”, which tells the story of four past participants whose Canada World Youth experiences were an important and positive turning point in their lives. Pascale is an assistant professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, and is finishing her doctorate at Harvard Law School as a Trudeau Scholar. Both her research and her teaching focus on “translating the Other” in an era of globalization of markets and ideas, on women’s rights and Islam in Canada and abroad, and on socio-economic rights, education and poverty. Pascale participates in numerous projects dealing with the reform of Islamic law, access to justice, and the protection of human rights, both at the national and international levels, with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at the University of Ottawa, Lawyers Without Borders, la Fondation Paul Gérin-Lajoie and the Centre for the Study of Religion and Politics (Scotland). Pascale is also a mentor for the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation and a consultant for the National Judicial Institute.
