 Sharryn J. AikenSharryn Aiken is an assistant professor in the faculty of law at Queen’s University and simultaneously completing her Ph.D. at Osgoode Hall Law School. Her teaching and scholarly interests include forced migration and national security issues; international human rights as well as law and poverty.

Sharryn’s activism was inspired during her years as field staff with Canada World Youth in the late 1980s. After completing a term as country coordinator (1989-1990 Ontario/Uruguay program), Sharryn facilitated a pilot project on law and justice issues in remote communities in northern Ontario.

Prior to her current position at Queen’s, Sharryn was a refugee lawyer with legal aid clinics in Toronto and in private practice. She has been an active member of the Canadian Council for Refugees since 1992, serving in a range of roles from working group co-chair to president. Currently, she is a member of the Equality Rights Panel of the Court Challenges Programme and editor-in-chief of Refuge, an interdisciplinary journal on forced migration.

Sharryn divides her time between Kingston and Toronto.
